Pulmonary function test (spirometry)

A pulmonary function test measures how well your lungs work by examining different values while you breathe in and out.

When is a pulmonary function test sensible?

A spirometry is used in sports medical examinations, occupational health checks, and follow-ups.

Typical reasons are also detection or follow-ups for signs of the following diseases:

  • Bronchial asthma
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Pulmonary fibrosis (scarring in the lungs)
  • Pulmonary emphysema (enlargement of the airspaces)
  • Pulmonary dysfunction as a result of COVID-19
